Couple of days ago, my pal came back from her trip to Italy. One of the experience shared by her caught my eye. According to her the people there do not have any such thing as ‘maids.’ They themselves manage their household chores or hire a ‘professional’ which as per our Indian norm is a ‘maid.’ In this case not only the names are different but also the way in which they are treated is different.
We Indians just cannot do without ‘maids.’ The ‘not-so clean’ people whom we usually look down upon ironically are the ones who tidy up OUR places every morning. This is bizarre! I call it our “Oh-so weird norm”
Let us analyse one more example. It’s about those who despise the non-vegetarian food consumers. I remember that my primary school textbook had a line : “All plants around us are LIVING CREATURES. They cannot move but yet they are alive.”
The above sentence explicitly tells us that plants as well as animals are living. So why hate the non-vegetarians when you yourself are doing the same thing.
I’m certain that you too must’ve come across one or the other “Oh-so weird norm.” Do comment and share your ideas. I’ll be glad to hear from you.
